BATIK

Batik ( pronunciation: Bateek, ) is a wax-resist dyeing technique used on textile. Batik is found in several countries of West Africa, such as Nigeria, Ghana, Cameroon and Mali, and in Asia, such as India, Sri Lanka,Bangladesh, Iran, Philippines, Malaysia and Thailand.

FABRICS

Normally natural or vegetable fiber fabrics, such as cotton, linen and silk, are the ones to use for batik.

Silkis one of the best fabrics for batik- the finer the woven the better - and a finer waxed line can be drawn on silk than on any other fabric. To start with, however, silk is far from necessary, and the expense may inhibit your inventiveness since you will be less willing to "chance" a design.

CULTURE

Batik has been both an art and a craft for centuries. In Java, Indonesia, batik is part of an ancient tradition, and some of the finest batik cloth in the world is still made there.

Javanese batik typically includes symbols. Some pieces may be mystic-influenced, but very rarely used for clothing. Some may carry illustrations of animals. The traditional cloth has natural colors (tones of indigo and brown).

Contemporary batik have more variety of color. While owing much to the past, is markedly different from the more traditional and formal styles. For example, the artist may use etching, discharge dyeing, stencils, different tools for waxing and dyeing, wax recipes with different resist values and work with silk, cotton, wool, leather, paper or even wood and ceramics.

MALAYSIAN BATIK

Malaysian batik is famous on the east cost of Malaysia (Kelantan, Terengganu, and Pahang). Despite of influence of Indonesian batik, Malaysia batik design is actually distinguish from the Indonesian batik.

Malaysian Batik does resemble the Indonesian batik in the way of technique or raw material. Malaysian batik is recognizable by it distinguish pattern and vivid colours .

All Malaysian batik is handmade from scratching, waxing by canting, and coloring using die. The most popular motifs are leaves and flowers. Malaysian batik depicting animals are rare because Islam norms forbid animal images as decoration. However, the butterfly theme is a common exception. The Malaysian batik is also famous for its geometrical designs, such as spirals.

The Malaysian Government is now promoting Malaysian batik through fashion by having local designers to create new fashions, inspired by batik.

USES

For men, batik can be worn at dinner functions. Even the ladies wear the fabric as formal dress, combining batik with modern fashion.

Unlike Java in Indonesia where handrawn batik sarong designs are catalogued (and some patterns and colors are traditionally reserved for royalty), formal or court occasions in Malaysia call for songket, cloth woven with gold thread. songket is an acknowledged cultural heritage today.

If there are wrinkles or bend in your tie from not storing it correctly, you can steam it to relax the fabric making it hang straight again. But if you are short on time, you can hang it for a while so that it drapes naturally again.

Ironing may not be a good alternative because it could discolor or change the texture of the silk. But if you want to iron your necktie, you can place a cloth over it and let the heat transfer through so that the iron does not directly touch the silk.

01. Use mild detergent below pH 10 to wash your necktie.

02. Leave talcum powder on stain to soak up grease.

03. Mark cleans with vinegar or lemon juice.

04. You must be careful when dabbing with water because it could leave a water stain. Your necktie should be steamed off evenly with the surrounding fabric

05. Do hands wash in a sink by gently swirling the clothes in cool water; but never twist or wring out silk

06. If you don't have much time to take care of your necktie, worse comes to worse, there are professional tie cleaning services.
